Who She Almost Played: An unknown Series 5 character

Who She Actually Played: The Thirteenth Doctor

This is the one we know the least about, with exact character details having not been divulged. But here's what we do know: Jodie Whittaker - our current Doctor - almost appeared in Series 5, the first series to star Matt Smith in the title role.

More specifically - according to The Sunday Times - she almost appeared in Smith's debut episode, The Eleventh Hour:

"Her only intimate connection with the show would come in 2010 when she was rejected for a cameo in Matt Smith’s opening episode as the 11th Doctor."

There aren't a whole lot of cameo-sized parts in The Eleventh Hour that seem to be a fit for Whittaker, so maybe she was going to play some random Leadworth villager who was cut from the script? Or maybe she was up for Olivia Colman's role, although that does feel like more than a cameo.

Maybe we'll find out for sure one day, but for now, we can only speculate.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
