7. Jim Carrey
Wait. So you're seriously trying to tell us that Hollywood movie star and comedian extraordinaire Jim Carrey was once approached to play a 900 year old alien from outer space?! Alrighty, then! Believe it or not but Jim really was offered the role of TV's leading Time Lord back in the 90s. After being controversially axed in the UK (still not over that!), American networks were all vying for the rights to relaunch the series on the US market and one in particular, Fox, was hoping to bring it back bigger and better than ever before, judging by the calibre of actor they were pursuing. Needless to say, Jim ultimately turned down the reputable role owing to the simple fact that he... erm, had absolutely no idea what Doctor Who was. At least he was honest. It's probably for the best, too, since that sort of attitude has never gone down particularly well amongst the show's formidable fandom. We don't care if you're Ace Ventura - no friend of the Doctor's is a friend of ours. Sorry, but it's true.
