Doctor Who: 10 Actors Who Came Very Close To Playing The Doctor

6. David Walliams

From one jokester to another and this one would have certainly been quite the sight to behold. David Walliams is widely cited as one of Britain's best comedians but he's also an admirable actor, too. That seemingly worked in his favour during the BBC's mission to find their perfect Time Lord because at one point he found himself in the running to be the Ninth Doctor himself. Suffice to say, Russell T Davies must've been leaving no stone unturned when it came to the daunting task of casting the nation's new hero and, since David's proposed casting would've coincided with the time he was gaining critical recognition for his various performances in Little Britain (in which he dressed up as a woman, projectile vomited and generally got up to all kinds of scandalous sketch show shenanigans), it's not 100% clear what exactly Russell was thinking. Still, he must've seen something in him, though, and it wasn't until 2011 that Doctor Who fans got to experience it for themselves. David guest starred as Gibbis in the Series 6 adventure The God Complex and if anyone has it in them to make a cowardly mole-like creature convincing, it's him. Maybe he wouldn't have been such a bad Doctor after all...
