5. Aimee-Ffion Edwards
She isn't a household name but Edwards has taken on roles in dramas such as Skins, Luther and Game of Thrones. Her comedic potential was realised recently on Mackenzie Crook's hit series Detectorists, in which she played Sophie. This softly-spoken character turned out to be double crossing her archaeologically-minded mates, though came good in the end. Viewers may also remember her as the eerie soothsayer of royal downfall in the BBC's Wolf Hall, which definitely put her on course to be a breakout talent. Doctor Who could be the show to do just that. Plus she's Welsh, and it always helps to hail from the Nu series' spiritual home. The Twelfth Doctor needs a positive to his negative, and Edwards can embody this. As he rants, she reasons - the pairing could yield some highly rewarding results.
