Doctor Who: 10 Actresses Who Could Replace Jenna Coleman

1. Rose Leslie

Why she should be next: Leslie is perhaps the most obvious pick for a list like this, having been extensively linked with the role of Doctor Who companion when the initial rumours of Coleman€™s departure came flooding in. That said, she€™d be pretty good in the role. She can pull off all the aspects required of a successful Doctor Who companion. She's courageous, defiant, confident, vulnerable€ all things that would help make for an interesting character. She€™s also had experience of being in a hit cult series with an enthusiastic fandom. She played Ygritte in Game of Thrones, capturing the hearts of numerous fans before she was cruelly killed off at the end of Series 4. Furthermore, she€™s been in Downton Abbey, playing the role of Gwen Dawson. This means that she will be able to deal with the increased fame, attention and adulation that would come with being a key part of Doctor Who. The two very different roles in two very different cult TV hits suggest that Leslie has a lot of range as well, which will be highly useful for a potential companion, given that it means the writers could take a number of different directions with her character. Why she shouldn€™t be: As with Summer Glau, Leslie€™s past roles could overshadow her making a huge impact as the companion. She€™s very well known as being Ygritte from Game of Thrones, especially having been the character that sparked a thousand memes with €œYou know nothing, Jon Snow€. This would mean it would take her a while to get past that which in turn could mean she struggles to make an immediate impact as the new companion. She's also quite busy, by the looks of things. She has two films currently in production according to her IMDb, so there may be concerns about her ability to commit to Doctor Who€™s schedule, especially if getting into the movies is what she€™s really aiming to do. So, who do you think should be the next companion and why? Is there anyone we missed here? Let us know in the comments below.
