Doctor Who: 10 Best Davros Stories

1. Genesis Of The Daleks (1975)

Of course, what else could it be? Widely regarded by fans to be the greatest Doctor Who story ever, Genesis of the Daleks is Doctor Who at its most mature, violent, darkest and powerful, containing iconic moments, memorable characters, deep performances and very resonant themes throughout. This sees the Doctor and his companions sent to war-torn Skaro by the Time Lords, towards the end of the Thal-Kaled War that has ravaged the planet for a thousand years, to prevent the creation of the Daleks, which would ultimately lead the Doctor into meeting his ultimate arch-enemy for the first time.

As instrumental as the Daleks are, their creator is the main focus, the key lynchpin of this macabre tale, and his role, in terms of narrative function, has never been bettered than here with his introduction. Davros instantly makes a huge impact from the get-go, and his contrasting role against Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor formulates the spine of this story, plus their interactions with each other are truly the stuff of legend ("Yes, I would do it!")

Even though Julian Bleach is the best actor to have portrayed the character, Michael Wisher is the one who breathed cold, malicious life into the twisted scientist, and without his portrayal of the character, we probably would never have seen Davros ever again. Genesis of the Daleks is Doctor Who at its very best, and you can't really call yourself a true Doctor Who fan without experiencing this iconic story, which is, to this day, Davros' finest outing.
