Doctor Who: 10 Best Episodes Of The Decade

9. The Lodger (2010)

‘The Lodger’ is one of the most underrated Doctor Who episodes. Yes, it’s a bit silly at times, but with such a tone comes plenty of humour that’s impossible not to enjoy.

Matt Smith’s performance is hilarious throughout owing to the Eleventh Doctor’s total inadequacy to act like a normal flatmate. His conversations with Craig (played by James Corden) are particularly amusing.

Smith also nails the physical humour. This is especially apparent when the Doctor partakes in a local football match and when he headbutts his new flatmate.

Unfortunately, the finale of the episode is rather disappointing. In fact, the plot generally feels rather underwhelming when compared with the interactions between Craig and the Doctor.

Still, ‘The Lodger’ is a must-see episode simply because of how funny it is. It may not be an overly important or epic episode of the Eleventh Doctor’s first series, but it’s certainly one of the most enjoyable.
