The greatest British sci-fi show in history, Doctor Who has firmly cemented itself as a cultural icon. Ever since its revival back in 2005, fans have been gifted with many incredible stories featuring terrifying monsters, exhilarating adventures through time and space, and a whimsical face-changing alien whisking companions away to other worlds.

Every season has highlighted the talents of a whole bunch of passionate writers, but not every episode can give all of us what we’re looking for in a good Doctor Who story. No matter the season or the Doctor, every episode will have a fan out there, but now it’s time to survey NuWho content and gather a list of the very best stories brought to our screens since 2005.

10. The Eleventh Hour

Kicking off with the best post-regeneration story in the revival era, The Eleventh Hour sees our newly regenerated Doctor crash land in the garden of seven-year-old Amelia Pond and Moffat mad brilliance ensues.

This story has one of the most inspired companion introductions, with a fantastic performance from Caitlin Blackwood as young Amelia, who we are suddenly re-introduced to as an adult Karen Gillan and 12 years have passed from her first meeting with The Doctor. The concept of an imaginary childhood friend being real makes intriguing groundwork for the relationship between The Doctor and companion.

Coming off the back of arguably the most popular incarnation of the titular Time Lord, played by David Tennant, Matt Smith and writer Steven Moffat had the unenviable task of keeping audiences invested in the character.

Smith pulled off the seemingly impossible and effortlessly steps into his predecessor’s shoes, with fish fingers and custard and who could forget the Atraxi montage of all the previous Doctors instantly making this episode a classic of the show.
