7. Army Of Ghosts/Doomsday
Speaking of endings (and the last decade of Doctor Who has certainly played host to its fair share of 'em!), here's another tear-jerking departure which is still widely cited as one of the greatest moments in TV history. The Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler had vowed to stay together forever but the universe had other ideas when they were tragically ripped apart after a climactic showdown with the Daleks and Cybermen. It was the stuff that fanboy dreams are made of but the historic sight of the show's two most iconic adversaries colliding was overshadowed by the fact that the climactic Series 2 finale was actually Billie Piper's final hurrah in her award-winning role as one of the most popular Doctor Who companions in history. And oh, how the nation wept. And wept. And wept. As they bid their last - *ahem* - farewell on the shores of Bad Wolf Bay, a record audience of 8.22 million were with them every step of the way. Whilst many continue to dispute the relevance of their relationship, the Doctor burnt up an entire sun just to say goodbye to her, which is pretty telling as far as romantic gestures go. Say what you like about the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler but they really were a formidable on screen force to be reckoned with. The emotional nature of their final - again, *ahem* - scenes together in the closing moments of Doomsday helped to define Doctor Who as one of the stand out dramas on British telly. If, of course, there had been any doubt.
