This character is well established in the universe NuWho has created, with a young Adelaide witnessing the Dalek invasion which occurred during the Series 4 finale. This inspired her to travel into space and see what other life was out there.

Lindsay Duncan gives a powerhouse performance, always remaining strong and stern in the face of all odds, even when The Doctor is forced to tell her that it is the fate of herself and her crew to die to allow the course of history to continue.

Duncan’s commanding screen presence becomes all the more significant during her final scene with David Tennant’s fierce turn as the Time Lord Victorious. She firmly chastises The Doctor on his arrogance and proceeds to kill herself behind a closed door to restore the time line for the future human race.
