Doctor Who: 10 Best TARDIS Interior Designs
9. The War Doctor's TARDIS (2013)
The 50th Anniversary Special was filled to the brim with easter eggs, call-backs and surprises. One that came completely out of left-field was the appearance of the War Doctor’s TARDIS.
The War Doctor bridged the long, unexplored gap between Classic and Modern Who, and so it followed that his TARDIS interior symbolised this on a rather literal sense, taking the walls of the classic TARDIS (complete with the "round things" in all their circular glory) and merging it with the console of the Ninth Doctor’s TARDIS. Looking at these two separately, you'd think combining them wouldn't work… and you’d be correct… But in a sense, that’s kind of the point. The overall look gives off the vibe that the TARDIS is malfunctioning and broken, just like the War Doctor himself. Given that he probably wouldn’t have had much time to fix it during his battles in the Time War, it makes sense that he would leave it as is and not pay too much attention to it.
If we’re gonna be nit-picky though (which we are), then technically this design doesn’t follow suit continuity-wise, as the previous interior was the ‘96 TV movie TARDIS, but since the beeb don't own the rights to that one, I suppose it gets a pass. All-in-all, a nice surprise that serves its purpose, and a broken TARDIS for a broken Doctor.
