Doctor Who: 10 Big Questions After Death In Heaven
5. Is There A Connection Between Frobisher, Caecilius And The Twelfth Doctor?
The final scene of Time Of The Doctor was not Peter Capaldi's first appearance in the Doctor Who universe. He had already played Caecilius in series four's The Fires Of Pompeii and John Frobisher in Torchwood: Children Of Earth. While this is not unusual for the show (Colin Baker and Karen Gillian both played different characters before taking on the Sixth Doctor and Amy Pond), there was talk of addressing those past characters at some point during series eight. Moffat even told audiences he would explain why these three characters all looked the same but the most we've had so far is the confused Twelfth Doctor looking at his reflection and stating that he'd seen that face before in Deep Breath. The suggestion made by the show runner and the episode was that there was more of an explanation to come. But twelve weeks later we've had nothing. Unless Moffat has a long term plan to have an episode featuring Frobisher and Caecilius, rumours of their connection to the new Doctor may have gone nowhere...
