Doctor Who: 10 Biggest Facepalm Moments

7. Finding Melody (Let's Kill Hitler)

After the somewhat disappointing "twist" that River Song was in fact the lost daughter of Amy and Rory (seriously, Moffat said he DOESN'T go on Tumblr), the overarching story during the sixth season's midseason hiatus was the Doctor traveling all over the universe trying to recover Melody Pond. Obviously, you all know who she grows up to be so the Doctor does eventually save her, but everyone was curious as to what other great battles he would have to fight to save the child of his two best friends. So when those seven infamous words were uttered by the Doctor, "you named your daughter after your daughter," the entire Whoniverse gave one worldwide facepalm to the one line that arguably makes Doctor Who what it's best known for. In their defense though, time travel, you can't keep it straight in your head. Amy and Rory got to raise Melody after all, just as their childhood best friend instead of as their daughter. It definitely made up for the "big reveal" of River's identity (which was actually pretty predictable) but after the glorious "A Good Man Goes To War," fans were probably hoping for something a bit more exciting and less twisted than what they actually got. You understand why it was done though; so Amy and Rory never really lost River and got to raise her after all, which was nice after the heartbreaking real twist of the last episode where the baby was taken earlier on by Madame Kovarian and turned out to be a Flesh. A great return, a disappointing conclusion, but with the best Doctor Who line of all time...
