Doctor Who: 10 Biggest Mistakes Of The Chris Chibnall Era
1. The Timeless Child
Without a doubt, the biggest crime of Chris Chibnall's era was the Series 12 finale The Timeless Children. In it, Chibnall decided to rewrite the entire history of the show, in a move so brazen the BBC had to issue an official statement afterwards.
This move was the idea that the Doctor was no longer an ordinary Gallifreyan, but actually a mysterious child who could regenerate, and who eventually became the blueprint for the DNA of the Time Lords. This meant that there are potentially dozens of incarnations of the Doctor before William Hartnell's First.
The idea that the Doctor was an ordinary being who stole a box and ran away was now gone. In its place was a confusing backstory that canonised several throwaway lines from the classic series. Great.
The whole of Series 12 had been building to this reveal, and through a dialogue-heavy and clunky episode, Chris Chibnall destroyed much of the show's credibility and continuity in one story. It's almost impressive when you think about it.
