Doctor Who: 10 Biggest Mistakes Of The Chris Chibnall Era

2. The Doctor And Yaz Not Getting Together

Since her introduction as a companion in The Woman Who Fell To Earth, it always seemed like there was more to the relationship between the Doctor and Yaz than was presented onscreen.

The romance between Mandip Gil and Jodie Whittaker's characters was also teased several times throughout Series 12, but due to the initial overcrowding of the TARDIS, it was never explored in detail.

It wasn't until after the events of Flux that John Bishop's Dan pointed out to Yaz that the feelings between herself and the Doctor were obviously there, and that she should do something about it. Sadly though, this meant that there were only two episodes left for this idea to be explored in.

At the end of Legend of the Sea Devils, these feelings were slightly addressed, as the Doctor basically told Yaz to remain in the friend zone. Then, at the end of The Power of the Doctor, the Doctor declares that she has to do her regeneration on her own. Yaz then breaks down in tears and leaves the TARDIS in a massively emotional goodbye, which seemed way too little way too late.

After teasing their romance for three full series, it was disappointing that Chibnall chose to leave things this way, as the Doctor and Yaz's relationship could've been something really special, had it been handled differently.
