Doctor Who: 10 Biggest Plot Holes Of The Revived Series So Far
2. The Doctor Could Totally Go Back And See Amy And Rory If He Wanted To
There wasn't a dry eye in the house when Rory got zapped by an Angel back to the 1930s and Amy followed suit to be reunited with him. And that was it. The 30s was a vulnerable spot for time travel, so a second trip there might break the universe again. To put the final nail in the coffin, a gravestone appears reading the names of Amy and Rory as if they died of old age from their lives in old Manhattan. Clearly, this was to be the final goodbye. Or was it?
Sure, the Doctor cannot go back to the 1930s New York as it is a vulnerable spot for time travel but he also has other options to see the Ponds again. The Ponds travelled all the way to Utah to see the Doctor before so why can't they do that again and meet him somewhere outside of New York? If they can't do that, how about waiting for a few years to meet the Doctor in 1940s New York, which is seemingly safe? Besides, weren't the Angels still in the 1930s with them? So Amy and Rory allowed themselves to be farm animals and the Doctor was OK with that?
What's more, the episode only implied that the Doctor can't travel to New York, yet it didn't imply that he can't go to a time after the 30s. Of course Doctor Who is a science fiction show in which expositions are sometimes unavoidable (like, you know... this one) but the Doctor is a talkative guy. If Amy was about to do something that would be of great consequence then the Doctor should clearly make Amy understand the gravity of the situation.
Besides, River later states that she can visit Amy and Rory through her vortex manipulator so it was possible after all. Look how sad the Doctor was compared to River. Lend him your vortex manipulator, would you? Be a dear, sweetie!
