Doctor Who: 10 Characters Who Should Return For Russell T Davies New Series

1. Martha Jones

Torchwood Gwen Gun
BBC

Martha Jones was a defining character of RTD's era. She appeared in the main Doctor Who series as a companion. She made multiple returns to Doctor Who after her departure, as well as crossing over into the Torchwood spin-off, and now she's making her way into audios with a series about how she survived The Year That Never Was.

Martha was a brilliantly written character, and her unrequited love for the Doctor is ultimately what drove her away from her role as companion. Her time as companion saw her reverse the companion role and found her consistently saving the Doctor rather than being saved by the Doctor. Despite all of this, it was sad that the Doctor took her for granted.

It was an interesting dynamic to have the companion outshine the Doctor, and proved that Martha was better off involved with Torchwood where she fit in because of her kick-ass character traits. If we see Martha Jones return, and we better had, she would be best suited to cameos in Doctor Who and, if RTD gets his way with an MCU style universe for Doctor Who again, she should be part of a new Torchwood team, or better still, have her own series!

Either way, Martha Jones is a character who absolutely NEEDS to return!

Simon is a writer, cat dad and presenter of a geeky radio show with his husband. He loves Doctor Who (except 10 who can get in the bin…only joking.) He idolises Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lara Croft and would 100% be a Sith Lord in a galaxy far, far away. He wishes life was like a musical so he’d actually be a good singer.
