The vacuum former played a major role in another tinsel-laden Tennant-based blowout, Voyage of the Damned. Long term fans detected a touch of the Voc robots from Robots of Death in the Angel Hosts, who served aboard the space-hopping Titanic location of the story.

Like the Vocs, they turned on the luckless occupants of the vessel. Unlike the Vocs, the money ran out from the neck down. Instead of a full costume, there was a choirboy smock and Frank Spencer's leftover nativity get up from Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em to conjure with.  The Hosts worked for Max Capricorn (George Costigan) who turned out to be a rudimentary version of Davros, essentially a motorised golf cart with a head.

Rafts of CGI, explosions aplenty and a big name guest star in Kylie Minogue must have cost the Cardiff operation an arm and a leg. This entry goes to show that, when purse strings need to be tightened, the henchmen are the first to bite the budgetary bullet!
