The Olympic celebrations of the (then) future and a mysterious little girl were the main elements of Fear Her, a Tennant tale that divided fans with its unorthodox threat of living artwork. One can only imagine the sore wrists of the effects team, having to animate scores of crudely-rendered characters. So many pencils worn down to a nub! So many crayons snapped!

Billie Piper's Rose got attacked by a ferocious doodle, which summed up the basic problem. The script, which revolved around a tiny alien called the lsolus, was certainly creative, but it wasn't going to give the competition any sleepless nights. Doctor Who can't always be about big set pieces, but sometimes what it offers as an alternative can be way too modest.

Fear Her reportedly replaced an episode by Stephen Fry at the last minute, which explains a lot. At the climax, the Isolus flew back to its kind, never to grace the screen again, and the show went on to feature a much better art-fuelled menace in Capaldi chiller Flatline.
