3. Plasmavore Henchmen

Martha Jones wasn't Doctor Who's most popular companion, but she got it bang on during Series 3's Smith and Jones, her induction into the world of David's Tennant's Toni & Guy-styled time fop. Her hospital had just been dumped on the Moon by the Judoon (and the dish ran away with the spoon) whilst its corridors were being stalked by Anne Reid's deceptively dotty Plasmavore.

Reid's space vampire was backed up by the requisite wordless henchmen, cunningly disguised as motorcycle couriers. If you've thrown most of your allotted cash at a bunch of shouty rhinos in suits of armour, you won't have a lot left over for sundries. As such, the crash helmeted, leather-clad threat stayed exactly that for the 45 minutes.

Jones delivered the killer line when she assessed their appearance via the medium of a best-selling cold sore remedy. Henceforth their planet of origin became 'Zovirax'. Their support of a psychotic old lady in a nightie carrying a deadly... uh, straw... made the adversaries that week a calculator jockey's dream.
