3. The Byzantium & The Angels
Shortly after aiding the Doctor and Amy at the crash of the Byzantium, River was pardoned and released from jail owing to the fact that there was now no evidence of the man she had killed having ever existed. This was because the Doctor had erased himself from every database in the universe and the whole thing worked out pretty well in River's favour because she finally got to leave jail (though admittedly she hadn't been sticking to her sentence thus far anyway) and became the professor of archeology she had always wanted to be. She was still getting up to all kinds of mischief, though (it's in her nature, after all) and the next time she encountered the Doctor, Amy and Rory was in 1930s New York - under the alias of detective investigator Melody Malone - where she found herself caught up amidst another case involving the Weeping Angels. It turned out to be a particularly heartbreaking affair for the Doctor as it marked his final adventure with the Ponds. River didn't have time to mourn the loss of her parents, though, because she had to start working on the book which would then be published in the past and lead the Doctor to New York in the first place. Timey-wimey and all that.
