Doctor Who: 10 Defining Moments In River Song's Timeline

4. The Silence & The Pandorica

Next up, River accompanied the Doctor, Amy and Rory on their Stateside jaunt against the Silence and you would never have guessed that she actually knew a lot more than she was letting on. For the sake of all things spoilers she was forced to pretend that she was just as confused as everybody else about the mysterious astronaut that had risen from the lake and shot the Doctor dead but she did try to attempt to shoot her past self and wasn't all that surprised when her efforts were in vein. It was a worth a try, at least. If you watch the episodes carefully, though, River does continuously nudge the Doctor and the gang in the right direction by helping to move the events along without being at risk of damaging the timelines. She suggests a lot of facts that turn out to be true (she'd been there, done it and bought the t-shirt, after all) so she must've always known that things would turn out for the best because she was living proof that time would take its rightful course. It still would've been been frustrating to have to act obvious to the situation, though. It would've saved a lot of time and head ache - for the viewers, at least - if she'd just revealed her identity there and then. It's a good job she didn't, though, because the entire universe would've imploded. After the Silence in America she rejoined the Doctor and Amy for the opening of the Pandorica and she was obviously getting the hang of things by this point because she left the Doctor with a few tantalising hints regarding the events that he was yet to experience. What an almighty tease.
