Doctor Who: 10 Dropped Plot Threads We'll Never Get The Answer To
4. Was Orson Pink Clara's Grandson?
'Listen' was a deliberately ambiguous episode that raised but didn't answer several questions - was there really a monster? Was that actually the Doctor as a boy? The one that really feels like it needs to be explained, though, is the mystery of Orson Pink.
In the episode, the Doctor and Clara encounter humanity's first time-traveller, Orson Pink, at the end of the universe and help him get back to his own time. It's clear from his name, his appearance and his talk of having a time traveller in his family that he's the grandson of Clara and Danny Pink.
It's often theorised that Moffat intended to reveal or at least hint that Clara was pregnant in later episodes. For instance, 'Dark Water' sees her make an urgent call to Danny with post-it notes on her wall that read 'truth', 'just say it' and '3 months.' This would have explained Orson's lineage.
As fans may know, Jenna Coleman was initially planning to leave after this season but ultimately changed her mind. Therefore, we can infer that Moffat was forced to change his plans and remove Clara's pregnancy from the equation.
In the world of the show, though, perhaps Orson was written out of history after Danny died in 'Death in Heaven'?
