Doctor Who: 10 Facts About Big Finish You Didn't Know
1. Paul McGann Is The Longest Serving Doctor
Like Colin Baker, Paul McGann's time as the Doctor has been a rather shaky experience. Having won the role of the Eighth Doctor he was contracted to film an Americanised rendition of Doctor Who, should the pilot do well with American audiences. Unfortunately for him it was a flop, rendering the TV Movie as his only on screen appearance.
Until Big Finish came along.
Paul McGann was brought on in 2001 and joined the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Doctors in the Monthly Range, forging fan favourite stories such as The Chimes of Midnight. At the time he was still technically the current Doctor, until 2005 rolled around.
However, his Big Finish audio adventures continued to expand, to the point where Paul McGann received his own range of episodes.
Things got even more complicated when Steven Moffat decided to write Paul McGann a swansong during the 50th Anniversary celebrations. Despite this, Big Finish are still producing content, now adapting his incarnation carefully to fall in line with the new established canon. This ultimately makes Paul McGann the longest running Doctor of all times, whilst also being the only Doctor to still be ongoing during other Doctors' tenures. Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey.
