Doctor Who: 10 Funniest Moments From Nu-Who

1. "Well, I€™ve got a banana, and in a pinch you could put up some shelves."

jack21 One of the things that got buried a bit deep in the mix with Captain Jack is that on his first appearance he was incredibly bitchy. In a delightful way. While in this, his first appearance he is Snarky, Charming, and a little rough around the edges, all his later appearances lean more toward portraying Jack as Charming, Enthusiastic, and Perpetually Horny. So much so in fact that we tend to forget that when we first met him he ran a nice line in withering commentary. The change is obvious €“ The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances is the only time Stephen Moffat wrote the character. All his other appearances were scripted by Russell T. Davies (Torchwood notwithstanding.) So in a sense you could build an interesting case study on the differences between the way that the two men perceive €˜cool€™ I€™m not actually going to do that, but if anyone out there wants to take it on I€™d love to read it. And so, in The Doctor Dances, The Doctor, Rose and Jack find themselves cornered by gas mask zombies. Jack, still firmly in charming acid-tongue mode, takes this as an opportunity to make fun of the Sonic Screwdriver. What I like about this is that we find out a minute or so later that he was also dealing with the situation, setting up a teleport that does in point of fact end up getting them out of there, but doesn€™t feel any need to actually mention it. It€™s a charmingly petty comment stuck right in the middle of our action-adventure sequence and it makes me laugh out loud every time. And there you have it. Those are the 10 moments that stand out as the funniest in Nu-Who from where I'm standing (although I can guarantee that the moment I post this I'll think of one I should have included.
