Doctor Who: 10 Great Fourth Doctor Stories

4. Stones of Blood (Story 100, 1978)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nwk7SSImcXo This one shows up smack in the middle of €œThe Key to Time€ story-arc that comprised season 16. It€™s certainly the best of that season, and definitely one of the best of the series. We have the Doctor, Romana (the recently-deceased Mary Tamm) and K-9 (John Leeson) running around (or in the case of K-9, barely rolling around), a group of standing stones looking for the latest segment of the key. While they do that, the stones, which appear to be alive, are busy killing people, and it€™s up to the Doctor, Romana and a woman I€™d swear is a lesbian to put a stop to it all. This is another one that just hits on all cylinders. The main actors were at the top of their games, and the supporting cast is equally good. The stones are used to great effect and the story ties-in nicely with the overall Key to Time arc. It€™s also the 100th story, and aired just a few days before the show€™s fifteenth anniversary. To have a series that gets up to that many stories is nothing short of impressive. To have one that€™s still on the air at the time of its fifteenth anniversary is truly staggering. That it stays on the air much longer than that is a real testament to how great the show is.
