10 Great Doctor Who Moments From The Brain Of Morbius

2. Morbius Revealed!

After Solon attaches the braincase to the body, viewers can see that Morbius' new form only serves to make him even creepier than was previously expected. When first shown the patchwork monster at the end of part one, sans brain case, viewers are shown a terrifying creature made up of furry, hulking limbs - add to this a clear fish-bowl with a brain floating around inside and you're bound go to give the audience nightmares! When Morbius' brain is finally added to the beast and life slowly returns its body, Morbius begins to sit up on the laboratory table and turn toward the recently blinded Sarah Jane. Again, a cliffhanger ending such as this is vintage Doctor Who at it's most visceral - the sheer terror felt by the collective audience is almost palpable even to this day. By putting an evil brain such as that of Morbius into a such a muscular and eerie body, Solon had managed to create a being which serves well as pure nightmare fuel. The image of the newly awakened Morbius - with his cobbled together body and visible brain - is one that is bound to stick with Doctor Who fans from the very first time they see it. I's no surprise that, with a villain as classic as this, The Brain of Morbius remains such a firm fan favourite.
