1. The 'Other' Past Doctors
Yes, topping the list is a moment which causes more Whovian pub-brawls than any other in Doctor Who history. In the climax of the story, the Doctor and Morbius have a mind-duel which results in the audience seeing (what they're told are) all of the Doctor's past regenerations. While things start off as fans may expect, seeing images of Jon Pertwee, Patrick Troughton and William Hartnell, what the audience is then treated to is a series of eight other faces. This moment - while brilliant in its outright cheek in throwing eight other incarnations of the Doctor into the mix - has left an inevitable huge question mark over the canon of these regenerations, assuming they're even proper regenerations at all. Some fans explain this away as the Doctor toying with Morbius by luring him into a false sense of security. Others believe that they may have been faces from the Doctors' previous regeneration cycle (making his current run his third) and some just choose to ignore them altogether. As the faces flash by, though, it's easy to imagine the production team giggling with glee as they thought about the confusion these 'regenerations' will cause. Whether this was a prank or a genuine attempt to retcon the Doctor's past is unknown. Whatever the reason, this delectable throwaway moment in the final confrontation with Morbius is a fan favourite debate topic which causes heated discussion to this day.
