10 Great Doctor Who Moments From The Brain Of Morbius

10. The Doctor's Dramatic Rant To The Sky

In a style fitting of the time, the Doctor's entrance in The Brain of Morbius is brilliantly melodramatic. Many actors that found their way on to TV screens in the 1970s had begun their careers in the theatre. As a result they were more used to over-acting, in order to reach the back rows of theatres. On TV, however, this style of performance tended to come across as a little OTT (as the young folk say). While this type of performance would seem out of character for a human in Doctor Who, it's quite fitting of the Doctor and gives the fourth incarnation of the Time Lord a dramatic, alien edge. The fact that the Doctor assumes he's been brought off course by the Time Lords yet again shows how little the Doctor trusts his own people and how wary he is of any outside influence that can affect the TARDIS. The near Shakespearean delivery of Baker's accusatory exclamations make for an entrance which instantly grabs the audience's attention and hooks viewers on how the story may develop.
