8. The Next Doctor (Story 199, 2008)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFU9wKm2sRE The first, and one of only two, of the Specials to appear on this list, The Next Doctor was a lovely story. The concept of a man who thinks hes the Doctor, but isnt worked so very well here, and the Victorian setting served the plot wonderfully, though I could have done without the giant steampunk Cyberman. It was also just great to see the images of all nine previous Doctors, which only served to make it more clear that McGann officially counts. This is also one of those rare episodes where I really noticed certain aspects of the production, like the directing and, notably, the cinematography and costumes. Mercy Hartigans red dress among the blacks and whites was a lovely thing to behold.
