Similar to his encounter with the Atraxi in The Eleventh Hour, the Doctor's defiant speech at Stonehenge demonstrated Eleven's peculiar combination of youthful recklessness and ancient wisdom. He wasn't going to let the vast numbers of his enemies overwhelm him, and he was actually quite gleeful about informing them of this fact. 

It was a powerful reminder that behind the young face was an old man who had seen much and knew how to stand his ground.
