Doctor Who: 10 Greatest Villains From The Moffat Era So Far

2. Missy (Series 8)

Any list of villains that can include the Master will probably end up doing so, and Michelle Gomez€™ incarnation of everyone€™s favourite renegade Time Lord is no exception. Missy is entertaining, bonkers, threatening and utterly, utterly watchable. She€™s arguably the most destructive villain on this list, too. While other bad guys have probably eradicated more people during the Moffat era, nothing has quite compared to the way Missy slices through UNIT. She casually murders fan-favourite Osgood and sends Kate Stewart hurtling towards death by forcing her to fall out of a plane. Within moments, the Doctor€™s main allies on Earth are gone and he very nearly suffers the same fate. However, what€™s really important with Missy - what makes any incarnation of the Master interesting, in fact - is the relationship she has with the Doctor. Her plans and acts of wanton violence are all about him. Most of what she does is to mess with his head. Or to give him a birthday present, which is probably part of what makes her machinations just so shocking. She€™s not afraid of who she hurts or causes to suffer, creating an entire afterlife merely as a means to an end. She overshadows the Cybermen, turning them into little more than her minions, and most importantly, she€™s captivating whenever she€™s on the screen, making the Series 8 finale so watchable. This means she€™s a worthy inclusion on this list - as any Master should be.
