Doctor Who: 10 Historical Events To Steer Clear Of

9. The Witch Trials of Salem and Europe

salemwitchtrials Despite it being an extremely interesting piece of history, especially since the burning of witches started in Europe, and finally made it's way over to Salem, Massachusetts, this would not be a topic Doctor Who should do onscreen. They may have touched on the topic in audios and books, but onscreen, it would be a bad idea. Firstly, because to this day people have a negative stereotype of Witchcraft and witches, that even trying to show the true cause of the whole panic and fear wouldn't help anything. The genocide count was about nine million combined, and even though the show has done many episodes involving genocide, but to possibly show hanging or in the instance of Europe, the burning of innocent people would just be horrific. There are actually quite a few movies that are made involving this topic, so why would the show have to jump on board with a topic such as this? This is probably better left to the big screen, where it will do better with a certain kind of audience.
