Doctor Who: 10 Big Talking Points From The Magician's Apprentice

5. The Doctor Has A Party

In series eight we have seen the Twelfth Doctor grim, moody and altogether a much harsher self than we were used to in the Tenth and Eleventh incarnations. But that changed in The Magician's Apprentice as Peter Capaldi delivered a much more playful side to his character, having had some fun before confronting Davros.

Wearing sunglasses in 1138AD Essex, playing an electric guitar, riding a tank and introducing the word  'dude' several centuries early, this was a huge but very fun difference in the Doctor and it was great to watch. Oh sure he didn't care about messing with history - this Doctor isn't quite as feely as his immediate predecessors - though he still found time to compliment Clara and give her a hug.

Was this the Twelfth Doctor with nothing to lose, indulging in a one-off party, or a new side to his character? Only time will tell.
