Doctor Who: 10 Big Talking Points From The Magician's Apprentice

3. Missy And Clara Are Exterminated...

The return to two-parters and the weekly cliffhangers of old Classic Who was surely justified by this dramatic end to the Magician's Apprentice that saw not one, but two pivotal characters exterminated before the end credits. Missy's attempt to strike a deal with the Daleks was not surprising - just look to her / his past actions in Frontier In Space, but no one expected this evil Time Lady to meet her maker without a regeneration in sight.

More shocking still was the death of Clara moments later, while the horrified Doctor looked up from Davros's chamber, his arch nemesis laughing maniacally. The BBC have just announced that Jenna Coleman will be leaving the show - is Clara's end sooner than we expected? And if so, how do you explain her presence in trailers for future episodes?

Of course, knowing Missy's penchant for survival, one or both of them might have made it out. Unless of course, future episodes are set before The Magician's Apprentice - it's a rather timey wimey headache that ensures this huge moment will leave audiences desperate for next week!
