2. Throttling Your Companion
"Right Colin, you remember we said your Doctor was going to be a bit different to the others? Well, how about this for a change of pace...?" One can only imagine Baker's response on learning he was going to attempt to murder his pretty companion within hours of displacing the bloke from All Creatures Great and Small as TARDIS pilot. Unstable after the most turbulent bodily renewal since Pete Burns paid his first visit to a plastic surgeon, it became obvious that the Sixth Doctor was going to be on the dangerous side. His paranoia ramped up to mega levels, he promptly decided poor Peri had to be an alien spy and choked her to within an inch of her life before her quick thinking with a mirror made him see sense. Doctor Who had seen its fair share of stranglings up to that point, but it was usually the villains doing the dirty deed. This scene, arguably more than any other, was the defining moment of Baker's tenure in terms of its sheer gutsiness and determination to take the character in a more experimental direction. Poor Peri.
