Doctor Who: 10 Iconic Sixth Doctor Moments Nobody Will Ever Forget
3. Opening Lines
What comes out of the mouth of a new Doctor is as important as a baby's first word, and Colin Baker's introduction to the world of Doctor Who had more riding on it than most. For starters, it followed arguably the best regeneration sequence in the programme's lifespan, with predecessor Peter Davison vacating the role in a sort of LSD-fuelled version of This Is Your Life. Sitting bolt upright, his "noble brow" right in the faces of startled gogglebox watchers, the debut of the Sixth was an instant classic. This character had enough confidence to crush a Magma Creature, and he'd only just rearranged his molecules! When Peri asked him what had happened, his reply echoed through the ages. "Change my dear... and it seems not a moment too soon!" Whilst other prospective Gallifreyans emerged from the chrysalis addled and unsure, Baker stood out as a man who owned the room from his opening seconds. Fans were dumbstruck. Their hero had died and this decidedly cocky chap had taken his shoes and then complained about the fit. Though The Twin Dilemma stuck a whimper on the end of The Caves Of Androzani's bang, it was perhaps wise for the production team to plunge aficionados straight into the first adventure the following week. After this scene, they could hardly have beared the suspense!
