Doctor Who: 10 (More) Actors Who Could Replace Jenna Coleman

3. Brandon Routh

Why he should be: Poor Brandon Routh. He seems doomed to be eternally known as the failed Superman from Superman Returns. However, he€™s a hugely talented actor, having put in good performances in shows like Arrow and Chuck, and an immensely enjoyable cameo in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. However, it still feels like he needs a role to shut the doubters up and taking on the role of the new Who companion could be the perfect opportunity. He has the chops for a lead role and can use his experience as Superman to help him deal with an enthusiastic fanbase. Furthermore, he can play intelligent and talk as fast as any of the Doctors, which could create an interesting dynamic with a Doctor who wants to be the quickest, cleverest in the room. (Admittedly that€™s not a trait unique to Capaldi, but€) He€™d also manage to connect with the American fan base, since he€™s from Iowa, and they€™d have an American performer to relate to as the companion. Why he shouldn€™t be: As said before, he€™s probably going to be known for all of eternity as the Superman from Superman Returns, which could easily overshadow his casting as the new companion. There€™d also be a lot of concern from fans who have only seen him in Superman Returns as to how well he€™ll do in Who, with the worry that there will be a similar result. Even though he wasn€™t the main problem with Returns he€™s often used the scapegoat so that speculation would still be there. He€™s also busy with his ongoing role as Ray Palmer in the CW DC television universe, which could mean he won€™t have the time to take part in Doctor Who. Furthermore, an attempt to appeal to the American fan base could go down badly with other areas of the fandom, if the reaction to the early 50th trailer is anything to go by. In addition, he€™s an actor who tends to take on more light hearted roles, with Superman not being the darkest of characters and Ray Palmer having a lot of comical lines and scenes in Arrow. This may mean there€™ll be some doubt over how he€™ll handle the dangerous, dark road of the new companion, and could mean there are some worries from fans as a result.

Adam Livermore hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
