Doctor Who: 10 Most Cringeworthy Moments Of All Time

6. The Prawn

If we were to just list the most embarrassing monsters, then we'd have many more than ten so this article will give a rare pass for classics such as the Myrka and the Dinosaurs invading London. However, rarely has there been a creature as startling naff as the Nucleus of the Swarm, the microscopic virus that infected the Doctor and Leela and which got out and grew to human size at the end of episode 3 of The Invisible Enemy. Things had been going great up to that point, with Bob Baker and Dave Martin's budget busting script asking for a asteroid hospital, a spaceship crash, the inside of the Doctor's mind and a robot dog. Considering the effects team probably had around a fiver left to make a monster they did as well as they could but, oh goodness, just look at it - a grey prawn costume with poor John Scott Martin stuck inside being pushed about. The shame of being a fan at moments like these! Even better, watch out for Tom Baker who can't hide his contempt for this creation and its irritating whiskers which keep pronging him.
