Doctor Who: 10 Most Cringeworthy Moments Of The Revived Series So Far
7. Auton Mickey (Rose)
This list wasn't just made to hate on the first episode (honestly, it wasn't!) but good lord, there's an awful lot to cringe over in it isn't there?!
Mickey's abduction by burping bin has been mentioned in a previous article but there's also the small matter of the way the Autons decide to duplicate him. Apparently Rose notices nothing wrong with the plastic version of her boyfriend which goes a long way to show just how into him she is (answer: not much at all). Surely, though, she can't be so self-involved to not realise that he's turned into more of a grinning idiot than usual?
Having seen the Autons replicate a human with such near-perfection that it was hard to tell the difference (Channing from Spearhead from Space is the best example), it's particularly jarring to see just how broad a brush they use when replicating Mickey here. Of course, even that would have been acceptable had it not been followed by the Doctor shooting a champers cork into Mickey's face, accompanied by comical music and sound effects to boot. Speaking of which...
