Doctor Who: 10 Most Cringeworthy Moments Of The Revived Series So Far
6. Stock Sound FX (Various)
Luckily this is a series of cringeworthy moments that went away completely by the second season, probably because the BBC gave the producers enough money to get a proper sound effects budget. But in those instances when a sound effect from some '70s or '80s animated show comes up during a tense scene in a 2005 series, it's hard for your shoulders not to react to it.
Although the aforementioned *boing!* sound effect when Auton Mickey's face is hit by the cork is bad enough, the worst offenders come in The Doctor Dances and Boom Town - and, come to think of it, some of the effects are exactly the same. Captain Jack's replicator (for lack of a better word) sounds suspiciously familiar when it creates his martini, as does Margaret's transport device (both when dematerialising and rematerialising). And then there's Margaret being chased in Boom Town which, for viewers of a certain age, is hard to take seriously when that sound comes up.
