Doctor Who: 10 Most Terrifying NuWho Monsters

8. Cybermen (Rise Of The Cybermen)

A true testament to the dangers of technological advancements.

Though this may be considered cheating as the Cybermen have appeared in the original series of Doctor Who, those were from the planet Mondas, whereas this incarnation was from a parallel world and were entirely a human creation.

Concocted by the brilliant mind of dying scientist John Lumic (played by the late Roger Lloyd-Pack) and Cybus Industries, it's understandable that he wished to prolong life of everyone by encasing them in near indestructible armour that would not decay, and removing emotions which would eliminate conflict.

The upgraded victims stormed a party, which results in a massacre of politicians, business people, and socialites. This also included the death of the parallel Jacqui Tyler.

In a later episode, they enter a huge scale war in Torchwood against the Daleks and never stood a chance against the Dalek weaponry and armour. The portal which shifted them through into another dimension also resulted in the departure of Rose Tyler, arguably the best assistant to appear in NuWho and did bring a tear to the eyes of many people (including myself).

When the entire country is controlled by advanced technology, the Cybermen highlight what might be, and why it's important to preserve humanity and autonomy at all costs (and not give robots weapons).
