Doctor Who: 10 Most Unlikely Allies Of The Daleks

3. The Ogrons

These slow-moving, ape-like guerillas were hired help for the Daleks on several ocassions.

Small-minded but loyal to their masters, these intergalactic mercenaries were used to bulk out Dalek armies and perform minor tasks. Expendable but more physical than the Daleks, they served as effective cohorts in the Daleks' plans for galactic conquest.

First appearing in 1972's Day of the Daleks, the Ogrons policed an alternate future of Earth ruled over by the Daleks. There they followed orders of a human controller also working for the Daleks, but there were no power grabs or question of hierarchy. The Ogrons knew and respected their place as inferior beings to the Daleks.

Providing brute strength and intimidation, these armed thugs could easily kill pesky resistance fighters with a single strike, but they could be as easily disintegrated by ray-guns.

Used by the BBC in a time where Dalek props were limited, these lumbering soldiers more than made up for their masters' absence with their iconic, Planet of the Apes-style and their appearances in three serials during the Third Doctor's era.

The Ogrons would also appear in 1973's Frontier in Space, working alongside their Dalek overlords and another classic Doctor Who enemy...
