Doctor Who: 10 Myths And Legends That Should Be Explored
8. The Labours Of Hercules
Thanks in part to the Disney adaptation; The Labours Of Hercules is one of the most well known cultural myths in the world and has a lot of variety to it that would suit Doctor Who down to the ground. Hercules seems perfect for a Doctor Who do-over since the ship of sticking closely to the established mythology sailed back in 1997 when Disney made him white and added African American gospel singers. While there are a lot of ways that the Hercules myth could be adapted to fit the Doctor Who universe, this is how we think it could be done: Hercules is an alien or human-alien hybrid seeking a throne that is rightfully his or acceptance back to his home planet, and is set trials by other members of his species to determine if he is worthy. Meanwhile the Doctor and his companions run into him and after getting to grips with the fact that Hercules is real and seeing him falter, lend a subtle hand to help him complete his labours and ensure that the myth of Hercules gets imprinted on Greek culture. As well as being a fun pseudo-historical romp, the Doctor meeting Hercules and helping him carry out his Labours could end up having some interesting messages about proving ones worth but also accepting help when you really need it. And the Doctor helping Hercules to fight a Hydra is a brilliant concept for an action sequence.
