Doctor Who: 10 New Things They Can Do With Clara

4. Clara Could Be A Mentor To A Second Companion

Doctor Who Clara 3

I love companion duos. Ian and Barbara. Jamie and Zoe. Sarah Jane and Harry. Amy and Rory. They give an interesting dynamic to the show that allows a story to focus on multiple angles by having the Doctor and two companions at three places at once, but also add some delightful banter within the Tardis, keeping the Doctor/companion dynamic fresh. While I'm fine with some time being spent on the Twelfth Doctor and Clara, to allow their revised relationship to be forged, I would like at some point during series 8 / 34 for another companion to join the mix. Given everything she's gone through, Clara has a wealth of experience to share. Helping a new companion to adapt to the world of the Doctor gives her a purpose beyond exploring the universe with the Doctor. Also, if Moffat wants some romance on the show, a companion love affair allows this to happen away from the Doctor himself. I can't see Capaldi's Doctor and Clara connecting in that way somehow. Clara has already expressed her maternal instinct in her role as nanny to the aforementioned Angie and Artie and also how she helped the Queen of Years when she was running away in 'The Rings Of Akhaten'. So taking that caring nature and helping a new companion adjust seems like a natural progression. Particularly if we get a companion from a different time period (Clara Prime was originally supposed to have been the Victorian governess) or even an alien. Because she will be helping audience adjust to the companion as much as the situation the companion find themselves in week by week.
