Doctor Who: 10 Of Rory's Roriest Moments

9. Rory's Choice

One of Rory's hardest on screen moments came in The Girl Who Waited. Faced with two simultaneous versions of Amy, one where he and the Doctor save her early on in her isolation at the Two Streams Facility, and one where they were unsuccessful and she lives most of her life alone, leaving her aged and embittered towards team TARDIS. Rory clearly struggles with his dilemma, at once wanting to save the younger Amy from having to endure years of loneliness and misery, but also not wanting to wipe out the older version of Amy from existence. For a time it looks like Rory will save both Amys but is ultimately saved by the older Amy. Her selflessness allows Rory the strength to choose the younger Amy, not wanting her to have to experience the fate that she had already once endured in the now aborted timeline. What Rory makes so clear to both Amy's is that he doesn't care that Amy aged, as it never mattered to him just how beautiful she was. He loved, and still loves, her for who she is. This impossible choice is made all the more powerful by Rory's initial reluctance to choose, when a lesser man wouldn't have thought twice about saving the younger Amy.
