6. The Draconians
Considering they were only seen once before (in the Jon Pertwee adventure Frontier in Space) the Draconians are very impressive. Their design is reptilian, which is nothing new for Who but much more elegant than the likes of the Silurians or Sea Devils. They are articulate and sophisticated, appearing Samurai-like and upholding morals and honour. Why should they come back? Just look at the name. Theyre begging to come back in a more political-based adventure, similar to the Pertwee story where he had to keep Earth and Draconia from engaging in interstellar warfare. Weve seen that kind of story reworked lately with the Siluriuans in The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood but the Draconian culture is quite well laid out given their single outing and exploring it further with a revisit to the screen would be great. Rather than bringing the Draconians back in a large group, you can also play on the Samurai influence of their culture and rework a Yojimbo-like story into an episode. A wouded Draconian rnin trying to find his way back home, with superior technology, is helped by the members of a town, both sides of which serve a crime boss and try to recruit him for their side. Suddenly the Doctor appears with a third way out of escaping away in the Tardis, but the Draconian is bound by honour to help the members of the town, despite the awful consequences of whichever side he chooses against.
