5. The Raston Warrior Robot
When word of Steven Moffat using a new monster for the fiftieth anniversary reached the ears of Who fans, there were mixed reactions. Moffat (quite rightfully, I would say) sees the anniversary as more of a chance to set the show off into new and interesting directions rather than just looking back on the history of the show. This isnt even too much of a different idea as while The Five Doctors celebrated the shows twentieth anniversary by bringing together the past Doctors and some of the most iconic of their foes, it also introduced the Raston Warrior Robot. It has since become something of a fan favourite, with good reason. It had the speed of a Weeping Angel before such things were even dreamed of, could take out an army of Cybermen single handedly and didnt look too bad either. With some forgiveness, of course, it
is a man in a silver bodysuit and helmet but it is primed for a modern redesign that makes it look sleek, simple and deadly. What story could he feature in? I see a futuristic arena where groups of different alien warriors are captured and put against the robot for mass entertainment. A single Raston Warrior Robot is champion against countless waves of enemies until one event promises perhaps the greatest warrior of all. The Last of the Time Lords. Forced to make alliances with some of the galaxys most violent villains, the Doctor sees brave men die in his name and he is the only survivor, defeating the Robot. Battered and beaten, the crowd cheers its champion before the Doctor orders them to stop and asks them if he is a pacifist but can defeat the perfect killing machine, just how dangerous is he? The games are shut down and the Doctor leaves putting an entire society in its place.
