Doctor Who: 10 One-Off Villains That Need To Return

2. The Zygons €“ Terror Of The Zygons (1975)

Doctor Who Zygons

It really is a testament to the impact the Zygons had in their only appearance that fans are consistently calling for their return thirty eight years on and that we even saw the aftermath of an unseen encounter with them in the Eleventh Doctor story The Power Of Three. One of Doctor Who€™s very few attempts at the somewhat clichéd idea of the shape-shifting monster, the Zygons only appearance came in an encounter with the Fourth Doctor where they attempted to invade Earth using the Loch Ness Monster. No, really. As well as the use of their shape-shifting biology to infiltrate other planets (something which would be a welcome change from the usual alien stratagem of either possessing people or using androids/replicants) is the Zygons€™ motivation. Rather than invading planets to expand their empire of because of a psychological need to conquer, the Zygons invade other planets to restructure them as a replacement for their destroyed homeworld of Zygor. It€™s an idea that€™s been used before but not so much that it loses all novelty. The Zygons would be perfect for a leisurely paced invasion of modern day Earth story, something which is not ver common in modern Doctor Who and was completely ballsed up the last time it was tried (The Power Of Three). Thirty-eight years is too long. We need another Zygon invasion.
