Doctor Who: 10 Places The Doctor Has Never Visited On-Screen

Another iconic Doctor Who villain without a home planet visited on-screen - the Sontarans' homeworld of Sontar has been without a visit from the TARDIS.

When a Sontaran first appeared in 1973/4's The Time Warrior, the clone-warrior claimed the Earth for its Empire. By the time of 2008's The Sontaran Strategem/The Poison Sky, the Sontarans were attempting to terraform the Earth into a new breeding planet for a new batch of warriors.

By this point, they were also fighting 'For the Glory of Sontar' and using 'Sontar-Ha!' as their battle cry.

However, the name 'Sontar' first originated in a Doctor Who Magazine comic strip from 2006 featuring the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler - predating the Sontarans' first appearance in Modern Who by two years. Extended media suggests that the Doctor has visited the planet, but we are yet to see what this strange planet could look like on-screen.

The closest the show has come to directly referencing a character being on Sontar is in 2008's Turn Left where Captain Jack was said to have been transported to the planet. Despite being part of a parallel timeline, a scene featuring Captain Jack fighting Sontarans on their own planet would have been entertaining.

With Chris Chibnall starting to feature returning villains in Doctor Who, we may soon see a revamped Sontaran Empire and perhaps their fearsome, war-mongering planet.
